The living world of forms in nature has always been a great fascination for Alexander Curtius.
After studying art, it was clear to him that a natural form, such as the multifaceted shape of a plant, can only be understood from the wholeness of its developmental cycle. This means that every living being must be understood in all of its facets, from its physical development to its very personal biography.
Alexander Curtius uses this background in his many activities as a teacher, designer, and sculptor.
In furniture design, Alexander Curtius brings together his experience as a carpenter and sculptor. He has dedicated himself entirely to organic design, as the human body consists of variously rounded surfaces. This makes seating or reclining furniture with organic surfaces truly comfortable and functional, and the design possibilities are endless. By reducing his creations to the essentials, he achieves a simple and flowing aesthetic.
He draws on many years of experience in the processing of driftwoods. Alluvial and root woods in their lively variety of forms are the starting point for his sculptures, in which he always endeavours to reduce them to their original form. His experience as an artist, craftsman and teacher flows into his work as a course instructor.
Alexander Curtius has lived in Scuol in the Lower Engadin with his wife and two children since 2000.
